SNB: Bellagio Group meets in Switzerland

From 12–14 January 2012, the Swiss National Bank (SNB) in Berne hosted this year’s meeting of the Bellagio Group. The invitation was issued by Thomas J. Jordan,  Vice Chairman of the SNB Governing Board and a member of the Group.


The Bellagio Group was founded in 1963 by Fritz Machlup, an Austro-American economist, and is made up of some 50 leading representatives of public life and academia. Its goal is to contribute to understanding of current economic, financial and currency issues. The Chairman of the Group is Barry Eichengreen, Professor of Economics at the University of California in Berkeley.

The Bellagio Group meets once a year for confidential discussions on economic developments of global relevance. The main topics of this year’s meeting included the European sovereign debt crisis and central bank policies in the current economic environment.
